Daylight & Sunlight

Expert daylight and sunlight assessment for optimum light levels in challenging environments


At GIA we understand that today’s architects and developers want to enhance the quality of the environment yet need to strike a balance that meets their commercial obligations.  Our focus, therefore, is on solving daylight and sunlight issues with innovative solutions that maximise on retained light.  These can include basement or subterranean schemes where there is limited daylight and sunlight, limitations imposed by overshadowing or projects that are likely to increase light pollution.

We work closely with your development team to provide initial development appraisals, daylight calculations for compliance with the Code for Sustainable Homes and master planning services.

Our daylight and sunlight assessments are carried out in accordance with BRE: Site Layout Planning for Daylight and Sunlight, as approved by the Department of the Environment and used widely in the planning application process.  Our team is also able to assemble detailed analyses into Environmental Impact Assessments for large developments that are in close proximity to residential buildings or amenity areas.
