Pipers Cottage plans

Pipers Cottage was built around 1840 and is one of four cottages on the Glentruim Estate, in the Cairngorms National Park. It is currently disused and in need of substantial refurbishment. We have been appointed to design and project manage the renovation of the property to form a one double bedroom luxury holiday cottage.

The solution

Set away from other properties within the estate, the cottage, which nestles into the landscape, is modest in proportion and architectural style. The feel is very much that of a romantic hideaway, a theme which has guided our concept for the whole design approach.

Retaining as much of its original character and appearance as possible, we propose to create a one bedroom cottage with open plan living and kitchen space and a large luxurious bathroom. The ceilings will be in line with the roof pitch and reclaimed oak trusses will be exposed giving the rooms a great feeling of height. At the same time, a cosy warm environment will be created with carefully chosen materials and furniture. The interior scheme will seek to reinforce the unique character of Pipers Cottage while satisfying the high expectations of the luxury rental market.

The project is due to complete in early summer of 2009.
