Our team is dedicated to the design of natural light and thus amenity, by considering every aspect of its interaction with the built environment.
The current drive for increased housing provision and the densification of urban environments particularly across London and other big Cities presents a challenge in terms of balancing amenity within developments , for which daylight and solar design plays a critical role.
GIA’s Daylight + Solar Design department have developed a series of bespoke services that support the architects and developers’ vision from massing through planning to detailed design specification, maximising value and optimising quality of amenity. Our advice is punctual, bespoke to each project and clearly presented through visuals and diagrams.
The D+SD team, as the largest dedicated daylight design department in the UK, offer a unique set of skills and resources, continually undertaking research in relevant fields to improve the services on offer.
The department also comprises a dedicated team to co-ordinate the preparation of ES Chapters on daylight and sunlight matters from the early stages of scoping through to submission, working closely with environmental and planning consultants to deliver comprehensive reports.
We are also able to provide the relevant assessments for CSH (Code for Sustainable Homes) and BREEAM – the world class environmental assessment system.
