To act as lead consultant and undertake a detailed pre-acquisition survey of the prestigious US Embassy building in central London.
The building is located on the west side of Grosvenor Square in central London; it was designed by modernist architect Eero Saarinen in 1957 and completed in 1960. Nine storeys in height, the building is surrounded with level concrete pavers and various recently installed security measures. It was granted Grade II listed status in 2009.
Task and Outcome
GIA was appointed as lead consultant of a team of surveyors, mechanical and electrical engineers, and structural engineers to carry out the pre-acquisition survey. This included the appointment of specialist surveyors to undertake such tasks as concrete and asbestos testing.
GIA also liaised with the client’s solicitors to resolve the various legal and compliance issues that arose during the project.
Access to the building was particularly challenging due to the sensitive nature of the existing owner’s business. Constant liaison was required with the US Embassy’s security team throughout the project.
